WALTHAM, Mass. – Thirteen different players scored tonight as the Brandeis University women's basketball team opened its season with a 90-37 victory over Regis College in the opening round of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament. The Judges, ranked No. 15 in the preseason by d3hoops.com and No. 16 by the WBCA, will face St. Lawrence University in the finals. The Saints defeated Trinity (Conn.) College, 68-54.

Brandeis (1-0) was paced by senior All-American Caitlin Malcolm's (Windsor Locks, Conn.) 20th career double-double. Malcolm had 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes of court time. She hit seven-of-12 fro the floor and one-of-two from the line. Sophomore reserve forward Lauren Orlando (Peabody, Mass.) was the only other Judge in double figures. She just missed her first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. Brandeis distributed the ball well, as 10 different players recorded assists.

Regis (0-1) was paced by 12 points from sophomore guard Laura Sears (Billerica, Mass.), all of which came in the first half. Sears hit two-of-four from the floor with a trifecta and seven-of-10 from the line in the first, but missed all 10 of her attempts in the second, as the Pride scored just 14 points on three-of-25 shooting from the field. Rookie guard Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) led Regis with six rebounds.

In the nightcap, Trinity opened the second half with a 3-pointer to take a 32-28 lead, but St. Lawrence answered with a 22-4 run over the next seven minutes to go up by 14. Five straight free throws by SLU junior guard Jamie Wolff (Buffalo, N.Y.) gave the Saints a 50-36 lead with 12:39 on the clock, and Trinity would get within 10 points for just 30 seconds the rest of the way.

St. Lawrence put five different players in double figures, paced by Wolff's 16. She four-of-13 from the floor with a 3-pointer and all seven free throws for game-high honors. Her four steals tied for game-best. Sophomore Katie Palmer (Bourne, Mass.) added 13 points on four-of-six from the field and the line. Senior guard Christie Herbst (Armonk, N.Y.) had 11 points off the bench with three from beyond the arc, while junior guard Kimberly Sikule (Westerlo, N.Y.) and classmate Andrea Muszynski (Buffalo, N.Y.) each had 10. Muszynski led SLU with seven rebounds, tied for game-high honors. The Saints enjoyed a 33-22 rebounding advantage, including 15-4 on the offensive glass, while forcing 25 turnovers.

Trinity (0-1) was led by senior guard Sarah Cox (Norwell, Mass.), who had 15 points, a game-high five assists and four steals. Rookie forward Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) had 10 points and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds in her collegiate debut. Three other Trinity players had eight points.
