Rookie guards lead No. 10 Brandeis women past Simmons, 64-32, in nonconference finale

BOSTON, Mass. -- Rookie guards Jessica Chapin (Mendon, N.Y.) and Lauren Rashford (Whitesboro, N.Y.) both scored in double figures tonight to lead the tenth-ranked Brandeis University women's basketball team past Simmons, 64-32, in the Judges' last regular-season non-conference game of the season.

Brandeis (11-1) held Simmons (4-7) without a field goal over the game's first seven minutes as the Judges built a 13-1 lead that was under double figures for just 59 seconds after that. The Judges forced 33 Shark turnovers and recorded 21 steals in the process. Chapin led Brandeis in scoring with 15 points on six-of-11 shooting while adding four steals as she made her first collegiate start. Rashford scored 13 points by hitting on three of her four 3-point attempts. Senior Caitlin Malcolm (Windsor Locks, Conn.) moved to within one point of third place on Brandeis's career scoring list with eight points. She also had five rebounds and a game-high five steals. Sophomore Cassidy Dadaos (Healdsburg, Calif.) led the Judges with six rebounds, while junior Kiersten Holgash (Easton, Pa.) had five assists to lead all players.

Simmons guard Sarah Clayton led all players with 19 of her team's 32 points. She hit six-of-14 from the floor, including four-of-seven from beyond the arc. Forward Lauren Kreckie led all players with 10 rebounds.

Brandeis is back in action on Saturday when they host UAA rival NYU in their home conference opener.
