Junior guard Jaime Capra (Old Bridge, NJ) netted 20 points and
senior center Caitlin Malcolm (Windsor Locks, CT) had 13 of her 16
points in the second half as Brandeis University remained unbeaten
with a 68-47 victory over Western New England College in a
non-conference women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon
(Dec. 9) in the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Brandeis, ranked seventh nationally in the d3hoops.com and eighth
in the USA Today/ESPN Division III polls, improves its record to
8-0.
The Judges raced to a 32-14 half-time lead and had a 44-24
advantage with 13:51 remaining in the contest before the Golden
Bears used a 14-5 run to get within 49-38 following a pair of foul
shots by senior guard Christine Aldrich (Montpelier, VT) with 7:06
left.
Malcolm scored her team’s next seven points on a
three-pointer, lay-up, and two foul shots to give Brandeis a 56-43
lead with 5:29 remaining. She also pulled down eight rebounds and
had four assists.
Western New England College (3-6) scored only five points in the
final 4:59. Junior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) had a
game-high 22 points for the Golden Bears, making 10-of-12 shots
from the field and both free throws. She is now a perfect 26-for-26
from the charity stripe this season.
Aldrich finished with nine points coming off the bench while senior
forward Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) contributed eight points
and nine rebounds.
Brandeis received 23 points from its reserves with freshman guard
Jessica Chapin (Mendon, NY) and sophomore center Lauren Orlando
(Peabody, MA) each compiling nine points. The Judges had a 35-26
edge in rebounding and made 13-of-16 of their free throw attempts
(81.3%).
