CLEVELAND, Ohio (courtesy Case sports information) -- The Brandeis University women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to force overtime tonight, and junior reserve forward Amanda Wells (Loudon, N.H.) hit the game-winning basket with five seconds left on the clock to give the visiting Judges a 67-65 victory over Case Western Reserve University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest.

Brandeis (13-4, 4-2 UAA) won its third straight game thanks to a game-high 19 points from senior Jaime Capra (Old Bridge, N.J.). Capra hit six-of-14 from the field, three-of-five from 3-point range and four-of-six from the line. She was one of three Judges in double figures. Junior Lauren Orlando (Peabody, Mass.) added 16 points, while classmate Cassidy Dadaos (Healdsburg, Calif.) registered her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Lauren Rashford (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had six points and a game- and career-high six assists off the bench. The Judges outscored Case, 28-13, in points off turnovers, including five of their nine points in overtime.

Case (9-8, 2-4 UAA) had four players reach double figures, led by senior Ashley Horton's 17-point, 14-rebound double-double. Senior guard Mary Herendeen added 13 points, seven coming in the first 10 minutes of action, as did rookie Caitlin Henry off the bench. Sophomore Ashleigh Tondo added 12 points, eight boards and a team-high five assists. The Spartans outscored Brandeis, 15-7, on the offensive glass.

Herendeen got the Spartans going with seven early points that gave Case Western Reserve a 17-14 lead. Horton extended the lead to 22-14 after scoring five points on back-to-back possessions, including her fourth three-pointer of the season. The Spartans nailed five shots from long-distance in the first half, en route to a 32-24 advantage. Horton led all scorers with 10 points at intermission on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.

The Judges would answer back early in the second half, going on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 32-apiece. However, the Spartans would go on an 8-0 streak themselves, taking a 40-32 advantage behind two three-point bombs from Tondo. Brandeis would tie the game with 8:57 remaining, as Lauren Orlando’s lay-up knotted the game at 46-apiece.

Orlando would tie the game again at 58 with less than a minute remaining, as her lay-up with 24 seconds remaining would send the game to overtime. The Judges forced a late turnover with 10 seconds left and had a chance to win in regulation, but were unable to convert a last-second opportunity.

The two teams went basket-for-basket in overtime, as Capra would again bring Brandeis back in the game with a three-pointer with 55 remaining to tie the game at 65-apiece. That set the stage for Wells’ basket with five seconds remaining that would prove to be the dagger, giving Brandeis their ninth win in-a-row over Case Western Reserve.
