No. 7 women's hoops win battle of unbeatens, 64-58, over Regis

WALTHAM, Mass. -- In a battle of unbeaten women's basketball teams, the Brandeis University Judges defended their home court with a 64-58 win over the visiting Regis College Pride in Red Auerbach Arena today.

The Judges (9-0) were able to take advantage of their depth while exploiting Pride turnovers. Brandeis reserves outscored their counterparts, 24-10, while converting 23 Regis miscues into 27 points. Junior guard Lauren Rashford (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) led Brandeis in scoring with 16 points - 10 in the second half - as she connected on 5-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-4 from downtown. Classmate Jessica Chapin (Mendon, N.Y./Lima-Honeoye Falls) pitched in 14 points and a career-high seven steals. Sophomore Amber Strodthoff (DePere, Wis./DePere) led the bench charge with nine points - all coming in the first half - and a team-high nine rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Rookie Morgan Kendrew (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable) contributed all eight of her bench points in the first half as well.

Regis (9-1) was paced by junior guard Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.), who had a game-high 21 points. She hit 8-of-16 from the field, with three 3-pointers and two free throws. She also contrbuted five steals and four rebounds. Page had 10 ponts in the first half and 11 in the second. Senior Laura Sears (Billerica, Mass.) was the only Regis player to score in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore forward Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H.) led all players with 12 rebounds, nine coming before intermission. Rookie guard Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) had a fine all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists.

Brandeis is next in action at Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening in their final non-conference tilt of the season. Regis is next in action at the Goombay Classic in the Bahamas on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against UMass-Boston.
