NASHUA, N.H. (courtesy Daniel Webster sports information) – The visiting Brandeis University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire this afternoon and used 49 percent first half shooting to build a 24-point lead at the half, pacing the Judges a 71-53 victory over host Daniel Webster in a regional women's basketball matchup Saturday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Junior guard Kasey Dean (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) led a balanced attack for Brandeis with a career-high 13 points, while sophomore Hannah Cain (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) and senior Erika Higginbottom (Millbury, Mass./Worcester Acad.) added 12 points and rookie Samantha Mancinelli (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) also had a career-best with nine as the Judges snapped a three-game losing streak - all against nationally-ranked squads - and improved to 3-3 overall.

DWC (0-6) was paced by 21 points and nine rebounds from rookie Ashley Giampetruzzi (Manchester, N.H.) and 19 points, three assists and three steals from Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.), who surpassed the 1,300-point mark for her career. Jennifer Fredericks (Beacon Falls, Conn.) added eight points.

Brandeis finished with a 43-29 advantage on the boards - led by Higginbottom's nine (six offensive) and Mancinelli's career-high seven caroms. Dean and Cain tied for game-high honors with four assists each.  Brandeis shot 42 percent overall while holding DWC to 38 percent from the field.

Eleven different Judges cracked the scoring column and Brandeis combined for just 10 fouls allowing DWC just two attempts at the free throw line for the game.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they open their New England Collegiate Conference slate at Newbury beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Brandeis visits UMass Dartmouth on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
