ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Brandeis women's basketball team had its lowest-scoring game in 15 years today as the Judges fell to No. 7-ranked Washington University, 60-28, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest today. With the loss, Brandeis falls to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the UAA, while the Bears improve to 14-2, 4-1 UAA.

Brandeis's 26 points were their lowest since a 25-point showing against UAA foe NYU in 1998. Sophomore Hannah Cain (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) had seven points to lead the Judges, but it came on 2-of-11 overall, 1-of-3 from downtown. Rookie Niki Laskaris (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) had five points off the bench, hitting the Judges' only other 3-pointer. Cain also tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds and added three steals. Senior forward Erika Higginbottom (Millbury, Mass./Worcester Acad.) led Brandeis with three assists. 

The Judges managed to hold WashU to their fourth-lowest scoring total of 2012-13 and below 40 percent shooting for just the eighth time (39.6%, 19-48) while forcing 23 Bear turnovers. Unfortunately, Brandeis committed 22 miscues of their own, and were only able to convert the hosts' errors into 11 points.

Washington's Melissa Gilkey was the only player in double figures for the game with 16 points, while Alyssa Johansen and Lucy Montgomery had nine each. Montgomery's scoring came off the bench and were all scored from downtown. Maddy Scheppers tied with Cain for game-high honors in rebounding and assists with seven and three, respectively. The Bears outrebounded Brandeis, 50-37, and held the Judges without a field goal for 10-minute stretches in each half. 

Brandeis returns to the road in UAA action next weekend when they head to Emory on Friday night at 6 and Rochester Sunday afternoon at 2.
