Jackson named to NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll for third time

WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University senior center Maria Jackson of Rochester, N.Y., was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll for the third time this season on Monday.

Jackson led the Judges in scoring and rebounding in a 1-1 week against University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents. She posted her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while holding Division III's leading scorer eight points below her season scoring average in a 65-58 loss to No. 15 Carnegie Mellon. In an 81-69 win over Case Western Reserve, she scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Judges handed the Spartans their first UAA loss. The 22 points represented a career-high. Eight of her 22 points came in the third quarter, when the Judges hit 13 of 17 shots to take the lead for good.

Overall this season, Jackson leads the 10-4 Judges in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.8 points and 8.1 boards per game. She leads the squad with 11 blocked shots is also tied for the team lead with 22 steals. In UAA games, Jackson is averaging 15 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Overall, she ranks ninth in the conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding. The Judges, who are currently tied with four other teams for first place in the league at 2-1, will travel to the University of Chicago on Friday evening and 12th-ranked Washington University on Sunday afternoon.

      Jackson is a 2013 graduate of Hilton High School.
