ATLANTA, Ga. – Brandeis University women's basketball senior center Maria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Rochester) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a cold-shooting night for the team as the Judges fell to host Emory, 61-50. The Judges drop their third in a row and fall to 10-7 overall, 2-4 in the University Athletic Association, while the Eagles improve to 12-5, 3-3 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a tight first quarter ended with the score tied at 17-all, Emory outscored Brandeis 14-8 in the second to take control of the game.
• The Eagles held Brandeis seven minutes without a field goal, opening the second period on a 14-2 run to take a 31-19 lead thanks to scoring from five different players.
• The Judges scored the final six points of the stanza to close within 31-25 with 49 seconds to go, but they could not capitalize on two stops in the final minute to get any closer.
• Jackson scored the first bucket of the second half, but EU's Shelley Kaniut answered with the next five points to push the lead back to nine.
• A Hannah Nicholson (Sunderland, Vt./Burr and Burton Acad.) lay-up just over midway through the third kept the Judges within six, and though they held Emory to just one field goal the rest of the period, they were unable to take advantage and trailed 42-34 after 30 minutes.
• The Eagles got a 3-pointer from Allison Chernow to start the fourth period and an Ashley Oldshue foul shot gave the home team a 46-36 lead with 8:59 remaining.
• Brandeis answered with nine points in a row, as a Frankie Pinto (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) jumper made it a one-possession game, while two Noel Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) free throws got the Judges within 46-45 with 6:35 on the clock.
• Emory bounced back with seven of the next nine points, going ahead by six with just under three-and-a-half minute left.
• A Sydney Sodine (New York, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) lay-up with 3:02 on the clock got the Judges back to within four, but Emory outscored Brandeis 8-1 the rest of the way to take the win.

FOR BRANDEIS

• Jackson tallied her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. It was the seventh double-double of her career.
• Jackson needed 6-of-18 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the line to get there.
• Her 13 rebounds tied her season-high and marked the fifth time she had double figure rebounds.
• Sodine finished with nine points, while rookie Katie Goncalo (Fall River, Mass./Tabor Acad.) had six of her eight points in the first period.
• Sodine also led Brandeis with three assists.

FOR EMORY

• Emory got 35 points combined from Oldshue (19 points) and Kaniut (16 points).
• Oldshue notched eight of her 19 in the first quarter, while Kaniut had seven in the third.
• Kaniut also led the Eagles with eight rebounds, while Lindsey Tse had four assists to lead all players.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Emory outshot Brandeis, 38% (22-60) to 29% (18-63), but most other stats were similar.
• The Eagles had a slim 43-40 edge on the boards, while Brandeis won the turnover battle, 14-12, converting the 14 miscues into 11 points.
• EU made five 3-pointers to just two for Brandeis, while both teams made 12 free throws with the Judges taking two more attempts.
