Jackson, Hodges earn All-UAA post-season accolades

WALTHAM, Mass. — The Brandeis University women's basketball team had two honorees among the 2017 University Athletic Association postseason all-stars. Senior forward Maria Jackson of Rochester, N.Y., was a first-team selection, while classmate and guard Paris Hodges of Southampton, N.Y., was an honorable mention.   

      Jackson, a second-team All-UAA selection as a sophomore and junior, led Brandeis in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), steals (49) and blocked shots (26) this season. She ranked third in the UAA in rebounding, fifth in steals and blocks and 10th in scoring. Jackson led the Judges in scoring in 15 of the team's 25 games this season and in rebounding 16 times. She recorded five double-doubles – third most in the conference - four of which came in UAA play. She scored 20 or more points in a game three times, twice reaching a career-high 22, including a buzzer-beater against Emory on Feb. 3 that gave the Judges a 61-59 win.

For her career, Jackson will graduate in the top 10 in six career categories: blocked shots (4th, 62); rebounds (5th, 623); games started (7th, 92); field goals made (8th, 398); field goal percentage (9th, .448) and steals (139). Her 943 career points are 13th on the Judges' all-time list. Her 145 field goals made this season are the fifth-highest single season total in school history, while her 26 blocked shots are tied for sixth.

      Hodges has received honorable mention from the UAA for the third time in four seasons. She finished second on the team this year in scoring (11.1 ppg), rebounding (6.2 rpg) and steals (33) behind Jackson and set career-bests in each. She was also second in assists (2.2 apg) behind her sister, junior Noel Hodges. Paris was 14th in the UAA in scoring and rebounding. She was the team's leading scorer seven times, top rebounder seven times and led the team in assists eight times. Hodges recorded two double-doubles this season, both against Case Western Reserve - 13 points, 11 rebounds on Jan. 15 in Cleveland and 11 points, 11 boards Feb. 12 at home. Hodges saved her best game for last, scoring a career-best 25 points as the Judges completed a season-sweep of rival NYU, 50-47, in New York.

Hodges started every game in three of her four seasons, missing all but eight in four years. She finishing tied for 12th on Brandeis's career list with 78 starts. Hodges ends her career with 859 points, 493 rebounds, 192 assists and 98 steals.
