Jackson, Cooper named to ECAC All-Star teams

WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University senior Maria Jackson of Rochester, N.Y., and junior Jordan Cooper of Weston, Fla., have each been honored as Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England all-stars. Jackson was named first team for the women, while Cooper was selected as honorable mention for the men.

Jackson, a first-team All-University Athletic Association selection, led Brandeis in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), steals (49) and blocked shots (26) this season. She ranked third in the UAA in rebounding, fifth in steals and blocks and 10th in scoring. Jackson led the Judges in scoring in 15 of the team's 25 games this season and in rebounding 16 times. She recorded five double-doubles – third most in the conference - four of which came in UAA play. She scored 20 or more points in a game three times, twice reaching a career-high 22, including a buzzer-beater against Emory on Feb. 3 that gave the Judges a 61-59 win.

For her career, Jackson will graduate in the top 10 in six career categories: blocked shots (4th, 62); rebounds (5th, 623); games started (7th, 92); field goals made (8th, 398); field goal percentage (9th, .448) and steals (139). Her 943 career points are 13th on the Judges' all-time list. Her 145 field goals made this season are the fifth-highest single season total in school history, while her 26 blocked shots are tied for sixth.

      Cooper, a second-team All-UAA selection, was the Judges' leading scorer this season. He averaged 16.3 points per game, third-best in the UAA. Cooper also led the conference in free-throw percentage, connecting on 86.1 percent from the line (86.1%), ranked 51st in Division III this season. He also finished second on the Judges in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and steals (1.2 spg). Cooper led the Judges in scoring 13 times this season and rebounding 12 times. He scored in double digits in 19 of Brandeis's 24 games and scored 20 or more points in a contest 10 times, including the squad's season-best performance, 28 points in a 67-59 UAA win over Emory on Feb. 3. Two days later, in a loss to Rochester, Cooper scored 19 points, including two free throws with 26.3 seconds left in regulation, to become Brandeis's 32nd career 1,000-point scorer and the 13th to do it in fewer than three seasons. Cooper will enter his senior season in 24th on the Judges' all-time list with 1083 points.

Jackson is a 2013 graduate of Hilton High School.
