BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Brandeis University senior Camila Casanueva (Santa Clara, Calif./Dos Pueblos) set a pair of school 3-point records today in the Judges' season finale, an 80-67 loss at the hands of #7-ranked NYU at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility. With the loss, the Judges' season ends with an 8-15 record, 3-11 in the University Athletic Association. NYU wraps the regular season with a 22-1 mark, 13-1 in the UAA.
With just five points entering the fourth quarter, Casanueva went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to set the new records. She finished the day with 50 3-pointers this season, breaking her own prior mark by three, and with 169 trifectas for her career, surpassing Jessica Chapin '10's career total of 167. Casanueva also wraps up her career with 1152 points, eighth all-time, and an all-time best free-throw percentage of 87.1 percent. Casanueva also ends up fourth on the career assist list (317) and 12th in career rebounding (507). She is one of just 18 players in program history to have started more than 75 games.
In addition to Casanueva's team-high 14 points, the Judges also got 12 points from senior Kerry Tanke (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), also playing in her final career game. Tanke also grabbed five rebounds. Junior Francesca Marchese (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) finished with nine points, hitting 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, while sophomore forward Casey Perry (Milton, N.H. / Marshwood) had a fine game off the bench with eight points and team-highs of eight rebounds and three assists.
NYU put three players in double digits in scoring. Jordan Janowski led all players with 19 points, while Jenny Walker had 13 and Brooklyn Shelton added 12. Walker and Natalie Bruns tied for NYU's team high with six rebounds each, while Janowski and Belle Pellechia had three assists to lead the Violets. NYU shot 42% from the field (28-66) while holding the Judges to 39% (20-52). The Violets hit 11 3-pointers to the Judges' seven and won the turnover battle, 17-12. Brandeis scored the first four points of the game, but the Violets scored the next 14 and never looked back.
The Judges return three of their top five scorers and rebounds for the 2022-23 season.
