WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team couldn't keep up with a hot-shooting Emory squad today, as the Judges dropped a 77-58 University Athletic Association contest in Red Auerbach Arena today.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 6-10, 1-4 UAA.
- Emory, 12-3, 3-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandeis scored the first bucket of the game, but Emory answered with a 3-pointer and the Eagles never trailed again.
- Emory outshot Brandeis 42% to 26% in the first quarter in building a 22-12 lead, and the Eagles connected on 8-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, in the second to take a 43-26 lead at halftime.
- The visitors got 15 first-half points from Daniella Aronsky, who hit 5-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.
- Though Emory cooled off in the second half, Brandeis was unable to make up any ground despite 11 second-half points from leading scorer Caitlin Gresko (Howell, N.J./Howell).
- The teams tied with 15 points each in the third period, and the Eagles had a 19-17 edge in the fourth for the 17-point victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gresko finished with 17 points, three shy of her career-best. She also tied for team-high honors with four rebounds.
- Senior Francesca Marchese (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) added 11 points thanks to 3-of-8 from downtown.
- Marchese now has 117 career 3-pointers, fifth on Brandeis's career list.
- No other Brandeis player had more than five points, while first-year Mollie James (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) equaled Gresko and senior Emma Reavis (Miami,Okla./Deerfield Academy) with four rebounds.
- Senior Tathiana Pierre (Jericho, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) led the Judges with four assists.
- Emory had four players score in double digits, paced by Aronosky's game-high 23. She hit 8-of-11 from the floor and 7-of-9 from 3-point range. Aronosky also led all players with even assists.
- Lily Kennedy had 11 points and Izzy Munson and Morgan Laudick had 10 each for the visitors.
- Erin Martin led all players with 11 rebounds.
- Emory shot 47% from the field for the game (31-66), including 44% from 3-point range (11-25). Meanwhile, the Judges were just 30% for the game (18-60) and 28.6% from downtown (8-28).
- The Eagles won the battle of the boards, 45-38, and forced 17 turnovers while committing only 13, though the Judges had a 13-9 edge in point off miscues. Emory's bench outscored Brandeis's, 34-22.
