Women go 4-2 at second Northeast Fencing Conference meet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Brandeis women's fencing team wrapped up its 2012-13 Northeast Fencing Conference slate on Saturday with a 4-2 mark. The Judges earned easy wins over Smith and Dartmouth, both by 21-6 margins. They also edged Vassar, 16-11, and Tufts, 14-13. Brandeis suffered defeats at the hands of host Brown, 24-3, and Boston College, 20-7. Overall the Judges are 12-6, 9-3 in the NFC. The Judges are in fourth place in the conference with one more meet remaining. Brown finished at 12-0, while MIT is 11-1 and BC is 5-1.

The top performers for Brandeis in this weekend's meet were senior captain Zoe Messinger (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn), who went 11-3 in the saber, and rookie foil Caroline Mattos (Cumberland, R.I./LaSalle Acad.) who posted a 14-3 record. 

The Judges return to action next weekend at MIT for the Eric Sollee Invitational.
