WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's fencing team swept all three weapons tonight as the Judges defeated local rivals Wellesley College, 18-9, in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center tonight. The Judges improve to 12-8 on the season, while the Blue fall to 14-9. Brandeis has won the annual mid-week matchup with Wellesley every year since 2008.

The Judges' sweep was highlighted by the 7-2 foil squad, where junior Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) and sophomore Jessica Gets (Morganville, N.J./Marlborough) each went 3-0. Wellesley's points came from sophomore Brie Maurer and rookie Lucille Tsao.

In epee action, the Judges took a 6-3 decision. Sophomore Dakota Levy (Merion Station, Pa./Barrack) went 2-0, while rookies Madeleine Vibert (Last Vegas, Nev./West Career and Technical Academy) and Jamie Noh (New York, N.Y./Brearly) each went 2-1. Wellesley newcomer Julia Calventus-Coveney won all three points for the Blue.

The closest weapon of the night was saber, where the Judges won three-straight bouts on the second trip through the lineup. Senior Liz Feller (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) came over from the epee squad and won both of her matches, while classmate Laura Broffman (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) went 2-1. The visitors' rookie Lauren Park and junior Madeleine Barowsky each went 2-1.

Brandeis returns to action this weekend when they play host to the Eric Sollee Invitational, featuring opponents from Stevens, Haverford, Hunter, NJIT and the annual University Athletic Association showdown with rival NYU. Wellesley is off until Feb. 10 for the third Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season.
