Shealy posts 11-4 record at Duke; Judges post two squad wins over top-15 opponents

DURHAM, N.C. – Facing four nationally-ranked opponents in five matches, the Brandeis University women's fencing team went 0-5 on the second day of action at the Duke University Invitational. The Judges fell to #7 Penn State (21-6); Air Force (12-15); #12 Duke (1-26); #14 North Carolina (7-20); and #9 Temple (8-19).

The Judges got two squad wins during the meet. Against Air Force, the foil squad came away with a 6-3 victory, with first-year Alexandra McKee (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack), junior Alexander Wicken (Norwich, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy) and first-year Ellen Zhen (Newton, Mass. / Newton South) each going 2-1 against the Falcons. Against North Carolina, the saber squad prevailed, 6-3, thanks to a 3-0 record by junior Maggie Shealy (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), 2-1 from first-year Kayla Turnof (Westfield, N.J. / Kent Place School) and 1-2 by senior Jada Harrison (Jericho, N.Y. / Jericho).

Shealy led the Judges overall with an 11-4 record, going 3-0 against Temple and 2-1 against Penn State and Air Force. Turnoff's five wins on the day were second on the team, while McKee added four.

Brandeis returns to action on February 26 with the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference championships, which will be held in the Gosman Athletic Center for the first time.
