Women fall to Wellesley, 14-13

WELLESLEY, Mass. – In their annual mid-week matchup, the Brandeis University women's fencing team dropped a heartbreaker to local rivals Wellesley College, 14-13.

The teams split epee and sabre squads by 6-3 scores, with the Judges taking sabre and the Blue winning epee. Foil came down to a 5-4 result, with the home team prevailing in the last bout, 5-3, to clinch the victory.

Individually, senior Maggie Shealy (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) continued her outstanding with another 3-0 result, giving up just four touches along the way. First-year Kat Xikes (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) went 2-1 for the sabre squad. First-year Hannah Du (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) went 2-1 in foil after posting an 0-3 record in an earlier match against the Blue.

Brandeis returns to action this weekend at MIT for the Eric Sollee Invitational, including the annual University Athletic Association showdown with conference rival NYU.
