Bowdoin downs Brandeis, 2-0, in women's soccer action

BRUNSWICK, Maine (taken from a Bowdoin College press release) - The Brandeis niversity women's soccer team dropped its second road contest of the season today as they fell to Bowdoin Colege, 2-1, in Brunswick. With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 5-1-0 on the season. The Judges drop to 4-2-1.

Bowdoin had numerous chances to break into the scoring column in the opening half, but failed to convert until late in the frame. Danielle Chagnon, who had hit the post with a shot earlier in the period, took a pass from Alison Chase and flipped a perfectly-placed shot over the head of Brandeis netminder Betsey Medow (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) with 14 seconds left in the half to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead at intermission. Bobbi Dennison gave the Polar Bears a two-goal lead at 63:22, when a long shot hit the post and went off Medow into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

The Judges cut into the Bowdoin advantage late in the period when senior Lauren Gregor (Holliston, Mass.) found the upper right-hand corner of the net on a broken play with nine minutes left in the contest. Brandeis had a sensational chance to tie the game with under a minute to play, as sophomore midfielder Lizzie Bremner (San Rafael, Calif.) came loose in front of the goal. Her shot from in close sailed high, however, and Bowdoin claimed victory.

Anna Shapell (81:09) collected seven saves in net for Bowdoin. Kat Popoff (8:51) stopped one shot in relief. Medow made 10 saves in goal for the Judges.
