WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Renee Neuner (Haslett,
Mich.) scored two goals today as the University of Chicago women's
soccer team defeated host Brandeis University, 5-0, on Gordon Field
in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. With the two goals,
Neuner now has 24 for her career, making her the UAAs all-time
leading goal scorer.
Chicago (13-2-2, 4-1-1 UAA), the No. 14 team in the nation in the
most recent NSCAA poll, got all the scoring they would need in the
12th minute when rookie midfielder Olivia Ndyabagye (Albuquerque,
N.M.) intercepted a Brandeis pass and streaked to the net to score
her third career goal. The Maroons outshot Brandeis by a 12-1
margin in the first half.
Two Chicago goals 2:19 apart early in the second half put the game
out of reach. Ndyabage made a perfect throw-in to sophomore forward
Christine Farmer (Pine City, N.Y.), who beat a defender to score
her second goal of the season just 67 seconds in the second period.
In the 49th minute, Neuner scored the record-breaking goal when she
one-timed a pass from senior midfielder Randi Leppla (Germantown,
Ohio). The Maroons scored two late goals by junior back Bridget
Hogan (Lombard, Ill.) and Neuner in the 76th and 89th minutes,
respectively.
Brandeis (7-8-1, 1-5-0 UAA) got four saves each from sophomore
starter Julie Scherr (Baltimore, Md.) and classmate Betsey Medow
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who played the final 30 minutes of the
game. Chicago's Andrea Pryzbysz (Troy, Mich.) had five stops for
her eighth shutout of the season.
Brandeis concludes its regular season next weekend when they host
their nearest UAA rival, New York University, Saturday at 1 p.m.
Chicago will take on Washington University at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 5
as well.
