WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Lauren Gregor (Holliston,
Mass.) scored two goals for the second time in as many home games
today to lead the Brandeis University women’s soccer team
past visiting Clark University, 3-0, on Gordon Field.
Brandeis (2-1), ranked No. 25 in the most recent NSCAA Division III
national poll, scored the only goal they would need just 74 seconds
into the contest. Gregor sent a corner kick into the box, where
several players got touches on it. Eventually, Brandeis sophomore
forward Nickey Guertin (Orange, Mass.) corralled the ball and shot
off a defender, with classmate Lizzie Bremner (San Rafael, Calif.)
heading the rebound past Clark junior goalkeeper Tedi Link
(Irvington, N.Y.).
Gregor doubled the lead in the 20th minute when she intercepted a
Clark clearing attempt and blasted it home from 20 yards out. In
the 37th minute, the Judges added a third goal when junior forward
Lisa Kaplin (Armonk, N.Y.), playing in her first game of the
season, threaded a pass to Gregor, who beat one defender and placed
a shot high to the far corner of the goal.
Clark (2-2) tightened their play in the second half, with junior
Nolizwe Nondabula (Hayward, Calif.) coming off the bench and making
four fine saves to keep the margin at 3-0. The Cougars got some
pressure late in the half with Brandeis reserves in the contest,
but could not put one past Brandeis sophomore Betsey Medow
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who ended with five saves for her second
shutout in three games.
With her two goals today, Gregor now has two multi-goal games this
season and five for her career. She also moved into sole possession
of third place on Brandeis’s career point-scoring list with
80 career points, and fourth on the career goal-scoring list with
33 goals.
The Judges next take on Simmons College in Boston on Wednesday,
Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., while Clark heads to Western Connecticut State
University on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
