Dallamora gets 200th win as Brandeis women's soccer blanks MIT, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. - In a historic contest on several fronts today, the Brandeis University women's soccer team defeated visiting MIT, 3-0. The game was the first played on the Judges' newly-renovated Gordon Field. It also marked the 200th career victory for head coach Denise Dallamora.

Dallamora is the 19th person in Division III women's soccer history to reach that plateau. She is in her 26th season at the Judges' helm, the only women's soccer coach in school history.

Brandeis (1-0) opened the scoring in the 33nd minute when sophomore midfield Lizzie Bremner (San Rafael, Calif.) sent a long ball from beyond midfield. Senior co-captain Lauren Gregor (Holliston, Mass.) collected it, dribbled and deposited the ball past MIT junior keeper Kat Vater (Middleton, Wis.). That was the only goal of a first half that Brandeis dominated throughout, allowing just two MIT shots while getting 18 of their own.

The Engineers (0-1) opened the second half strongly, getting two quick corner kicks and three early shots, but Brandeis sophomore goalie Betsey Medow (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made her only save of the game and the Brandeis defense helped weather the storm.

The Judges gained some breathing room in the 64th minute when junior back Brittany Douglass (Tarzana, Calif.) struck a shot that went off the crossbar. It deflected right to sophomore Nicky Guertin (Orange, Mass.), who pounced on the rebound to register her first career goal.

Brandeis closed out the scoring in 67th minute when Gregor calmly netted a penalty kick for her fourth career multi-goal game. The Judges were awarded the kick following an MIT foul on a breakaway.

Vater made 10 saves in the losing effort for MIT, while Medow had just the one stop to record a shutout in her first career start. Brandeis next plays at Babson College on Tuesday, Sept. 6, while MIT plays at Simmons on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
