WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Lauren Gregor (Holliston,
Mass.) registered a five-point game in her final regular-season
contest today, taking part in all three goals as the Brandeis
University women's soccer team defeated visiting New York
University, 3-1, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest
on Gordon Field.
Brandeis (8-8-1, 2-5-0 UAA) got on the board with the only goal of
the first half in the 13th minute. Gregor intercepted a pass from a
Violet defender and rocketed it home for her ninth goal of the
season.
NYU (7-9-1, 1-6-0 UAA) scored the equalizer in a similar fashion
early in the second half. With just 18 seconds elapsed, junior
midfielder Whitney Dipollina (Waterford, Conn.) took an ill-advised
Brandeis pass and blasted it just under the crossbar from about 25
yards out.
The Judges broke the deadlock with just over five minutes remaining
in regulation. Gregor took a corner kick that bounded through the
goal box and onto the waiting foot of sophomore midfielder Lizzie
Bremner (San Rafael, Calif.). Bremner slammed it home for her third
goal of the season.
Gregor added an insurance goal in the 88th minute when she emerged
from a scrum and slid the ball under the goalie and into the far
end of the net. With the goal, Gregor reached 10 goals in a season
for the third time in her career. She is now in sole possession of
second place on the Judges' career goal-scoring list with 29 and
second on the points list with 96.
For Brandeis, sophomore Betsey Medow (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made
five saves for the win, while sophomore Katie Barnes (Boston,
Mass./Boston Latin) had seven stops for the Violets.
