BRUNSWICK, Maine (courtesy Bowdoin sports information) - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team exploded for seven goals in the second half of an 8-1 victory over Brandeis University on Thursday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 8-3-0 while the Judges drop to 7-5-2.

Despite the lopsided score, the Judges grabbed an early lead, as sophomore Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) took a feed from rookie Taryn Martiniello (Rehoboth, Mass.), crossed the top of the box and lofted a volley past Bowdoin netminder Kelly Thomas just 55 seconds into the game to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Brandeis would carry the lead for 11 minutes, until Rebecca Silva drilled a shot to the lower left corner to deadlock the contest at 12:52.

The game remained tied until the second half, when Bowdoin rolled off four goals in less than eight minutes to decide the contest. Ann Zeigler played a ball to the left wing to Larkin Brown, who tucked a shot under the crossbar to give the Polar Bears the lead for good at 60:58. The tally marked Brown's first career goal. Zeigler then scored twice- at 61:48 and 68:26- sandwiched around a Dana Riker tally at 64:24 to push the Bowdoin lead to 5-1.

Claire Cutting netted two goals in the final 18 minutes, along with Molly Duffy's first career goal to close out the scoring. Kelly Thomas made three saves in the victory, while sophomore Hilary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) had three saves and four goals against while senior Betsy Medow (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had one save and four goals against in split time in net for the Judges.
