Pittsburgh, PA -- Brandeis senior Tzlil Castel beat the Carnegie
Mellon defense to put the Judges up 2-1 late in the 2nd half,
giving them a conference win in this University Athletic
Association (UAA) match-up.
Carnegie Mellon (8-5-2, 3-2-1 UAA) struck first with a goal in the
40th minute when Senior midfielder Jessica Howard (Brookline,MA)
played an over the top ball to a running Kasey Stever (Chagrin
Falls, OH) who one-touched the pass past the goalkeeper. Tartans
net minder Anya Rosen (La Canada, CA) stopped 3 shots in all.
Brandeis (9-6-2, 2-3-1 UAA) showed great resilience as they opened
the second half with a goal from junior Jenna Lipawsky (Parkland,
FL) who nailed a shot into the top right corner after a weak clear
from the Tartans defense. With the score tied, Lipawsky would once
again find herself in the mix as she passed a through ball to the
charging Castel who then beat the Carnegie defense. Finishing the
play, Castel shot the ball past a diving goalkeeper to give the
Judges the lead and the winning goal in their 2nd UAA win. Brandeis
goalkeeper Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, FL) blocked a total of 4
shots, helping lead the Judges to victory.
The Brandeis Women will hold their final regular season match with
against UAA rival NYU on Saturday November 3rd.
