Women's soccer grabs second conference win from Carnegie Mellon 2-1

Pittsburgh, PA -- Brandeis senior Tzlil Castel beat the Carnegie Mellon defense to put the Judges up 2-1 late in the 2nd half, giving them a conference win in this University Athletic Association (UAA) match-up.

Carnegie Mellon (8-5-2, 3-2-1 UAA) struck first with a goal in the 40th minute when Senior midfielder Jessica Howard (Brookline,MA) played an over the top ball to a running Kasey Stever (Chagrin Falls, OH) who one-touched the pass past the goalkeeper. Tartans net minder Anya Rosen (La Canada, CA) stopped 3 shots in all.

Brandeis (9-6-2, 2-3-1 UAA) showed great resilience as they opened the second half with a goal from junior Jenna Lipawsky (Parkland, FL) who nailed a shot into the top right corner after a weak clear from the Tartans defense. With the score tied, Lipawsky would once again find herself in the mix as she passed a through ball to the charging Castel who then beat the Carnegie defense. Finishing the play, Castel shot the ball past a diving goalkeeper to give the Judges the lead and the winning goal in their 2nd UAA win. Brandeis goalkeeper Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, FL) blocked a total of 4 shots, helping lead the Judges to victory.

The Brandeis Women will hold their final regular season match with against UAA rival NYU on Saturday November 3rd.
