WENHAM, Mass. -- For the second game in a row, Brandeis
University sophomore Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) score two
goals to lead the Judges to victory as they defeated host Gordon
College, 3-1, in non-conference women's soccer action.
Gorenkoff got Brandeis (5-1-1) on the board in the 15h minute when
she shot a ball from 20 yards out along the end line. It ricocheted
off the post and in for her fourth goal of the season. Gorenkoff
doubled the lead at 48:13 with another long shot, this time from
about 25 yards away.
Gordon (6-2) answered the second goal just 17 seconds later as
Kelly Donlan took a failed clear and put it past Brandeis keeper
Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) to spoil the shutout bid. The
Judges added an extra goal in the 89th minute when rookie Kelly
Cozzens (Lancaster, Mass.) scored on an assist from classmate
Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass.).
Brandeis outshot the Fighting Scots, 22-15 and earned a 5-4
advantage in corner kicks. Rosenzweig picked up the with with six
saves, three in each half, while Gordon's Katie Knaus had eight
stops in the losing effort.
Brandeis is off for a week before taking on Smith College on Sept.
26 at 7:00 p.m.
