WALTHAM, Mass. -- A scramble in front of the net produced the
game's only goal today as the No. 12-ranked Washington University
women's soccer team defeated the host Brandeis University Judges,
1-0, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Gordon
Field.
Washington (12-1-0, 3-1-0 UAA) and Brandeis (7-4-2, 1-2-1 UAA)
played even in the first half. The Bears owned a 10-4 in overall
shots, but shots on goal were even at three apiece. The game's only
tally came in the 58th minute thanks to a couple of local products.
Sophomore Becca Heyman (Winchester, Mass.) got service with a crowd
in front of the goal. Senior Abbey Hartman (Napierville, Ill.) got
the first foot on the ball before it settled in front of sophomore
Elyse Hanley (Westborough, Mass.). Hanley knocked it home for her
first goal of the season. The Bears were able to keep the pressure
on Brandeis all game long, outshooting the Judges, 23-6.
WashU senior Carrie Sear (Evanston, Ill.) made five saves for her
fourth shutout of the season and the team's eighth overall.
Brandeis sophomore Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) made six
stops in the losing effort.
Brandeis is next in action in a non-conference road game at Bowdoin
College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
