Women's soccer falls to No. 25 Springfield, 2-1, in double-OT

WALTHAM, Mass. - Springfield College rookie midfielder Jen Jahoda (Lebanon, Conn.) headed home a corner kick 4:13 into the second overtime period today as the 25th-ranked Pride defeated host Brandeis University, 2-1, in a non-conference women's soccer match on Gordon Field. With the loss, Brandeis saw its nine-match winning streak and eight shutouts in a row dating to last November, snapped.

After a scoreless first half, Brandeis (4-1) opened the scoring at the 69:59 mark. Sophomore forward Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass.) sent a through ball to rookie midfielder Izabella Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.). Miranda raced to the front of the net and tallied her second goal of the season.

Springfield (3-1) answered just 64 seconds later. After the Judges were called for a foul just outside the box, Pride senior back Delany Cantrall (Santa Paula, Calif.) fired the ensuing free kick high over the outstretched arms of Brandeis junior goalie Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.). It was Cantrall's second of the season. Until Cantrall's goal, Brandeis had not been scored upon in just over 431 minutes this season and 831 minutes since last October 28 in a 2-1 win over Carnegie Mellon.

Both Rosenzweig and Springfield senior Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.) made saves over the course of the last 20 minutes of regulation, and both had point-blank stops in the first overtime session. The Pride finally got the game-winner in the second extra session when Cantrall's corner found Jahoda's head and then the back of the net.

Jenney finished with seven saves in the winning effort for Springfield, while Rosenzweig had three stops for the Judges.

Brandeis is next in action next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Bridgewater State College, while Springfield's next game is at 5 p.m. the same day against Williams College.
