Women's soccer moves to 3-1-1 with 2-1 win over Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (courtesy BSU Sports Information) -- Seniors Ellie Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Park) and Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) tallied a goal apiece for the visiting Brandeis University women's soccer team as the Judges hung on for a 2-1 victory over host Bridgewater State University this afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

Einhorn opened the scoring for Brandeis (3-1-1) in the 34th minute as she converted a breakaway opportunity off a nice feed from junior midfielder Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole). Pacheco gave the Judges a 2-0 advantage just under ten minutes into the second half as she scored from 25-yards out off a pass from junior back Fran Shin (Bayside, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo).

Bridgewater (1-2) cut the deficit in half in the 83rd minute as junior forward Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) notched her first goal of the season. Sophomore defender Allison Dexter (Plymouth, Mass.) assisted on the goal as she found McDermott inside the 18 with a nice through ball and McDermott beat the Brandeis keeper with a low shot inside the left post.

Sophomore goaltender Francine Kofinas (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) made seven saves between the pipes for the Judges to record her third win of the season. Senior netminder Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.) made 13 saves for the Bears while sophomore Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) played the final 11 minutes and turned aside one shot. Brandeis outshot Bridgewater by a margin of 30-11 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Bridgewater State returns to the pitch on Thursday when the Bears travel to UMass Boston for a 3:30 match with the Beacons. Brandeis hosts Roger Williams University on Thursday at 4 PM.
