Seniors star as women's soccer routs Lesley, 10-0, in last home game of regular season

WALTHAM, Mass. – The four members of the Brandeis University women's soccer Class of 2011 accounted for seven goals and six assists tonight as the Judges, ranked third in New England, routed Lesley University, 10-0, in their final regular-season home game on Gordon Field.

Brandeis improves to 12-3-1 on the campaign, registering their highest regular-season win total since 2004. Lesley falls to 10-5-2 with the loss, which snaps a six-match winning streak. Brandeis was playing against the Lynx's aggressive offside trap, which provided 21 offside calls against the Judges, but also allowed for the second-most goals in school history.

Leading the way was senior forward Sofia Vallone (Westport, Conn./Staples), who recorded her second hat trick of the season with goals in the 11th, 26th and 83rd minutes. The three goals on the afternoon gave her 15 on the season, tying her for second with Lisa Kaplin '07 on Brandeis's single-season goal scoring list, two behind the school record of 17 set by Melissa Delowe '04 in 2003. Vallone also added a pair of assists on the day, giving her an eight-point game, which vaults her into third on the single-season points list with 34, six behind Delowe's record of 40 points. Vallone also now has 26 goals for her career, 10th on the career list.

Fellow forward Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) also moved up some of Brandeis's career and season lists with a goal and three assists for five points. The three assists give her seven on the campaign and 26 for her career, just two behind former teammate Melissa Gorenkoff '10 on the Judges' all-time list. Her goal in the 74th minute mover her into a tie for sixth on the career list with 29, while her five points mover her into fourth on Brandeis's leader board with 84 points.

Also pitching in from the senior class was midfielder Ellie Einhorn (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Park), who notched her second goal of the season in the 70th minute. Finally, back Taryn Martiniello (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington), who has played in every minute of all 80 games of her career except one, scored twice in a span of 32 seconds late in the game for her second and third career goals. Martiniello also had an assist.

Also breaking into the scoring column today were rookie forward/midfielder Madeline Stein (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane), who had a pair of goals, and junior midfielder Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), who had a goal and two assists, giving her a team-high nine helpers on the season. Theodore needs one more assist for the fourth season of 10 in Brandeis history.

Aside from the scoring today, Brandeis got one first-half save from sophomore Francince Kofinas (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) and three stops in the second half by rookie Leah Sax (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury. Lesley's Corrine Dasti (Eastham, Mass./Nauset) and Victoria Ellis (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) had three and two saves, respectively.

Brandeis returns to action this weekend Friday night at 6 p.m. when they take on Washington University in University Athletic Association play. Lesley faces New England Collegiate Conference foe Newbury in their regular-season finale on Saturday at 2 p.m.
