Atlanta, GA. – (taken from the Emory press release) Despite a career-best 14 saves from junior Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), Emory University senior Clare Mullins, freshman Cristina Ramirez and junior Karina Rodriguez each scored goals in the second half on Sunday afternoon to lift the seventh-ranked Eagles to a 3-0 win over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Brandeis University.

The win was the third-straight UAA win for the Eagles, who improved to 3-1-0 in conference action, 10-3-1 overall for the year. Brandeis dropped to 9-4-1 overall with the loss, and to 1-2-1 in UAA matches.

The Eagles held a big advantage in shots during the first half, outshooting the Judges 12-3 during the frame, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.  However, neither team was able to get on the board in the first 45 minutes, keeping the contest in a scoreless tie heading into the second half.

Brandeis nearly jumped in front early in the second half when junior Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) was awarded a free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box. Her free kick struck the crossbar and stayed out, maintaining the clean sheet for Emory.

The Eagles would break the defensive draw in the 63rd minute on a spectacular finish for Mullins. A corner kick from junior Charlotte Butker went through the six-yard box, and found the feet of Mullins, who launched a perfect shot into the upper far corner of the goal.

The score remained 1-0 until the Eagles added on a pair of late goals. In the 82nd minute, Ramirez was able to score, taking possession of a high-bouncing ball sent in by senior defender Lauren Gorodetsky, and sending a shot past Savuto. In the 89th minute, a persistent Rodriguez took three shots on goal over a four-second span. The first two were saved, but Rodriguez was able to score on the third for her third goal of the season.

Emory outshot Brandeis 21-5 in the second half, to finish with a final shot advantage of 33-8 for the game.  Emory added 17 shots on goal and a season-best 11 corner kicks. The Eagles' defense recorded its sixth shutout of the season, with sophomore goalkeeper Liz Arnold turning away each of the three Brandeis shots on goal.

The Eagles will be back in action mid-week, when Emory will welcome Agnes Scott College to the Woodruff Physical Education Center for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The Judges will travel to UMass.-Boston on Thursday to take on the Beacons.
