WORCESTER, Mass. – Brandeis University head coach Denise Dallamora became the 14th coach in Division III women's soccer history to win 300 career games today as the Judges defeated the Clark University Cougars, 1-0, on the road at the Granger Soccer Turf today.
Dallamora is the third coach from New England to reach the milestone and the 35th across all NCAA Divisions. In her 35th season, Dallamora's record now stands at 300-256-58. She is the only coach in Judges' history, having started the program in 1980. She has led Brandeis to the postseason in 10 of the last 11 campaigns, including reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament and a program-record 16 wins in 2012.
Brandeis dominated today's game with Clark from the start. The Judges outshot the home team, 15-1, in the first half, but Cougar netminder Gabby Paolini was outstanding, making 11 saves in the first 45 minutes. Clark doubled its shot total early in the second half, but Brandeis finally broke through in the 60th minute. Senior Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) made a cross from the right side of the box, where she found rookie Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) all alone on the left post. Schwartz knocked it past Paolini for her first collegiate goal, and Brandeis's first tally of the season.
The Brandeis defense held on from there, not allowing the home team another shot, though Paolini made three more saves to give her side a chance. Brandeis ended the game with a 27-3 shooting advantage. Senior Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood,N.J./Ridgewood) made Brandeis's only save in the first half, while sophomore Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) was untested in the second half to earn the win. Paolini finished with 15 saves for Clark.
Brandeis returns to action in a week, facing Lasell College on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
