Schachter named UAA Defensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University women's soccer junior Haley Schachter of West Barnstable, Mass., has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 15.

Schachter, a defender, anchored the back line as the Judges posted a 2-0 week with a dominating defensive performance. They held two opponents, Bridgewater State and UMass Boston, to six shots combined. Brandeis outshot the Bears and Beacons by a combined 68-6 margin. In a 6-1 win over Bridgewater State on Sept. 9, Schachter also scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute, heading in a rebound off a corner kick. It was her first goal since 2012, when she scored in three-straight contests, including twice in the NCAA tournament. It was also Schachter's first collegiate game-winner. This is her first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor. She was an All-Association honorable mention in 2013.

Overall this season, the Brandeis women are 4-1 in head coach Denise Dallamora's 35th season, which included the 300th win of Dallamora's career on August 31 against Clark University. The Judges, who have outscored their opponents 12-3 this season, are ranked seventh in New England in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional poll. They return to the field on Sept. 17 at home against Gordon College at 4 p.m.
