Edalati paces women to sixth-straight win, 1-0, over Lesley

WALTHAM, MA – The Brandeis University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to six games today with a 1-0 win over Lesley University. This marks the Judges' longest winning streak since 2010.

During the first half, the Judges outshot their opponent 10-1 which they have done as a team in each of their six victories since the start of the season. Lesley held Brandeis at bay as junior goalkeeper Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I./Moses brown) had five saves.

Neither team had been able to break through in the first half, but the second was more closely contested. In the 79th minute, senior Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y./ Great Neck South) scored the first and only goal of the match. Junior Holly Szafran (Homewood Ala. / Newton North) sent Brandeis's eighth corner kick­ of the game into the box, where Edalati, who one-timed it into upper netting off the crossbar.

Brandeis senior goalkeeper Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) stopped the only shot that came her way in the second half, off the foot of Lynx junior Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif./Cathedral Catholic). Freshman Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) replaced Berard in the second half for Lesley and suffered the loss. Donovan stopped four out of the five shots she faced.

In the game with many offensive chances, the Judges were able to outshoot their opponents 19-4. They also held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Brandeis Women's Soccer team visits Wellesley on Tuesday at 4PM and return home against Bowdoin next Saturday at 1PM. Lesley faces Emerson College at home on Sept. 23rd.
