Women suffer second straight loss, falling to UAA opponent #5 Carnegie Mellon 1-0

The Brandeis Judges (11-3, 1-2) got off to a slow start as the #5 Carnegie Tartans (10-1, 2-1) got the early chances in the first half. Carnegie was able to outshoot the Judges in the first half 6-4. Brandeis sophomore goaltender Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./ Syosset) was able to stop all three shots that came her way while the Carnegie sophomore Katie Gliston (Lakewood, Ohio/ Montessori High School at University Circle) was able to stop the two shots that she faced. The best chance of the half for Brandeis came with five minutes left when junior Holly Szafran (Homewood, Ala./ Newton (Mass) North) booted a long free kick that the keeper bobbled but ultimately smothered. Brandeis and Carnegie ended the half tied, 0-0.

Both teams had their chances in the second half to take the lead over the other. Senior goalie Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./ Ridgewood) made an outstanding diving save as the ball was bending away from her. The Brandeis offense had another good chance when Szafran had another free kick that was punched over the net by the Carnegie goalie. Carnegie junior Carson Quiros was able to get the lone goal of the match off of a corner kick that she buried with a header.

Brandeis goalies Grossman saved all three shots she faced while Savuto was only able to stop one of the two shots that came her way. Liston for the Tartans had four saves with the win. Brandeis was outshot in the game 10-7 and only getting one corner kick compared to Carnegie's five.

The Judges return to action at home on October 19th against Emory College at 1:30pm during Homecoming. The Tartans travel to #23 New York University on October 19th at 1:30pm.
