Schwartz puts home the lone goal to upset Washington on the road, 1-0

The Brandeis Women's Soccer team (12-3-1, UAA 2-2-1) was able to take down the UAA powerhouse #5 Washington University (12-2-2, UAA 2-2-1), handing them their first conference loss of the season and first loss against the Judges since 2010.

In the first half, the Washington University Bears didn't take much time to test senior goalkeeper Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./ Ridgewood) by peppering her with shots and outshooting the Judges 13-1. Despite being drastically outshot, the Judges converted the one shot they had to give them the lead. In the 30th minute, freshman Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill./ Highland Park) received a give-and-go pass from senior Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y./ Great Neck South) and beat Washington goalie sophomore Lizzy Crist (Wayzata, Minn./ Minnetonka) in a 1-v-1. Savuto was able to maintain the lead for her team by blanking the Bears with five saves.

The Bears started the second half the same way they had in the first to try and make it an even contest. Their best chance of the game less than five minutes into the second half when senior Tessa Klumpp (Haymarket, Va./ Battlefield) rang a shot off the crossbar. Neither team was able to put the ball in the back off the net in the second half which gave the Judges the upset victory.

Brandeis was outshot on the game by a large margin of 24-7 in favor of Washington. Washington goalie Crist had stopped three of the four shots that came her way while the tandem pair of Savuto and sophomore Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./ Syosset) were able to blank the Bears by stopping all seven shots.

Brandeis finishes the regular season with two away games against Chicago on November 2nd at 2:30pm and against NYU on November 8th at 1:30pm. Washington plays NYU at home on November 2nd at 1:30pm for their Senior Day.
