Brandeis women fall to #16 Chicago, 2-0

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Brandeis University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to the University of Chicago on two first-half goals by rookie Kelsey Moore in a University Athletic Association match today. The Judges fall to 12-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the UAA. Chicago, ranked 16th in Division III, improves to 13-3-1, 4-1-1 UAA. The Judges, whose last four matches have been against nationally-ranked opponents, are 1-2-1 in that stretch. 

The Judges nearly fell behind in the ninth minute when Chicago hit the crossbar. The Maroons jumped in front in the 28th minute when Moore pounced on a ball the squirted loss from the goalkeeper and buried it for her first collegiate goal. She added an insurance goal in the 44th minute, when classmate Whitney Cargile intercepted a pass and lofted it over the defense to an unmarked Moore on the far post. 

Aside the the two goals, the match was evenly played. Shots were 12-all, including five on net for both teams. Senior Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made two saves in the first 45 minutes, but suffered the loss. Sophomore Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) had one stop in the second half. UC's Mallory Morse made four second-half stops to keep the Maroons in the game in the second half, while Jacinda Reid had one save in the first half for the win.

Brandeis will look to bounce back next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at New York University.
