Moscovitch goal lifts #12/13 women to 9-0

Waltham, Mass. - The No. 12 NSCAA/No. 13 D3Soccer.com Brandeis University women's soccer team matched the 2003 squad for the second-best start in school history, at 9-0-0, with a 1-0 win over Tufts University at Gordon Field. The 1985 squad won their first 10 contests.

It was the sixth consecutive shutout for the Judges, who are also approaching their all-time longest winning streak of 11, set last season.

The lone goal came in the 56th minute off the left foot of junior Cidney Moscovitch (Coral Springs, Fla./ Coral Glades), from a beautiful lead pass by senior Holly Szafran (Homewood, Ala./ Newton North). Szafran played the ball from midfield into the box, and Moscovitch flicked it just past the keeper and into the right corner. It was her third goal of the season, all game winners.

Judges junior goalkeeper Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./ Syosset) recorded two saves for her eighth win and fifth shutout. Emily Bowers had five stops in net for the Jumbos, who fell to 2-4-0.

Brandeis finished the match with a 17-5 advantage in shots, despite a 5-2 disadvantage in shots on goal, and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Judges return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, at home versus Wellesley College at 7pm.
