Waltham, Mass. - A goal nearly five minutes into overtime elevated the Brandeis University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Washington University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest between top-10 squads. The No. 10 Judges improved their record to 12-2-1, 2-2 in the UAA, while the No. 7 Bears fell to 12-2 overall, 3-1 UAA.

Senior Alec Spivack (Miami, Fla./ Miami Palmetto) scored the game-winning goal in the first extra session. She sent a free kick 30 yards from goal just over the outstretched arms of the WashU goalkeeper, breaking the scoreless tie in the 95th minute. It was the captain's third goal of the year, and second game-winner, both coming in UAA contests. It was the first goal allowed by WashU in six games – a span of 487 minutes.

In the 72nd minute, the Judges had a scoring opportunity with an open net but the shot from junior Cidney Moscovitch (Coral Springs, Fla./ Coral Glades) was cleared off the line by WashU senior Sam Ezratty . The Bears had an opportunity in the 86th minute when rookie Maggie Crist's header sailed just wide of the goal.

Just before the end of regulation, Brandeis junior goalkeeper Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./ Syosset) made a diving stop for one of her three saves.

Brandeis outshot WashU, 13-11, and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. WashU rookie keeper Lizzy Crist made six saves.

The Judges host Westfield State University next Wednesday, October 21, at 7 p.m., before a nine-day rest, followed by a two-game UAA road trip to Emory University and the University of Rochester.
