#14/17 women battle to 1-1 draw with Emory

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis and Emory women's soccer teams score goals about 11 minutes apart tonight as the squads remained tied in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings thanks to a 1-1 draw. The Judges - ranked 14th in Division III by D3soccer.com and 17th by the NSCAA - move to 13-2-2, 2-2-1 in the UAA, while the Eagles are 9-5-1, 2-2-1 UAA.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half was extremely even, with both teams taking five shots each.  
  • In the second half, the Judges opened the scoring in the 49th minute. Sophomore Sam Volpe (Groton, Mass./Groton) found senior Cidney Moscovitch (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades) open at the top of the box, and Moscovitch blasted a shot inside the near post for her sixth goal of the season.
  • In the 60th minute, the Eagles responded. Rookie Caroline Kolski (Palmetto Bay, Fla./Ransom Everglades) made a cross from the right corner to sophomore Grace Edgarton (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), who one touched it to the far post for her fourth tally of the season.
  • Brandeis went on to outshoot Emory 10-5, in the second half, and had nine corner kicks to one for the visitors, but the Judges were unable to find the back of the net.
  • The Judges controlled the first overtime, with a 3-0 shooting advantage, while Emory had a 4-1 edge in shots in the second stanza.

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

  • Judge senior Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) made four saves for the Judges, while Emory sophomore Dani Staffin (Bridgwater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) had three stops.
  • The two teams are tied for fourth place in the UAA with two games to two in the regular season.
 

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis meets the University of Rochester in a University Athletic Association on Sunday at 11 a.m. when they will celebrate Senior Day.
  • Emory will travel to NYU at the same time.
