WALTHAM, Mass.  –  The Brandeis women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals tonight to defeat visiting Wellesley College, 3-1, on Gordon Field. The Judges, ranked 19th in Division III by D3soccer.com and 23rd by the United Soccer Coaches, improve to 7-1-1 overall and are unbeaten in eight-straight games. The Blue fall to 2-5-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wellesley opened the scoring in the game in the 29th minute on their second shot of the game.
  • Senior Gen Crotty (Toronto, Canada/St. Mildred's Lightbourn School) sent a terrific long ball from the defensive end of the field. Blue sophomore Deyanira Ibarra (Los Olivaos, Calif./Midland School) beat a charging Brandeis keeper to the ball and chipped it high over and into the net for her second of the season.
  • Brandeis equalized in the 41st minute. Following a corner kick, rookie Willa Molho (New York, N.Y./Beacon School) saw her initial shot cleared off the line. She tracked down the rebound on the end line and sent it back through the box, where sophomore Katie Hayes (Eau Claire, Wisc./Regis H.S.) one-timed it home for her first goal of the season.
  • After heading to the half tied a 1-1, Brandeis took the lead in the 58th minute. Junior Sasha Sunday (Bethlehem, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) headed a 50-50 ball and senior Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) was on the other end. Burhans chipped it over the Wellesley keeper who was off her line, netting her third of the season.
  • Brandeis senior Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park), who had been denied on a flurry of chances earlier in the game, scored the insurance goal in the 84th minute.
