#16/22 Brandeis women blank Lesley, 3-0, to run unbeaten string to 10

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 10 in a row tonight as the Judges scored three first-half goals to defeat Lesley University, 3-0, in a non-conference match. The Judges, ranked No. 16 in Division III by D3soccer.com and #22 by the United Soccer Coaches, improve to 9-1-1 on the season, while the Lynx fall to 7-2-2 on the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges scored on their first two shots of the game.
  • In the 4th minute, rookie Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass. / Central Catholic) scored her first collegiate goal when she converted a corner kick from junior Sasha Sunday (Bethlehem, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic).
  • At 6:00 even, junior Sam Volpe (Groton, Mass./Groton) fed senior Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union), who converted her fourth goal of the season.
  • The Judges rounded out the scoring with just 10 seconds to go before halftime when rookie Willa Molho (New York, N.Y./Beacon School) netted the first goal of her career.
  • The Judges maintained the lead throughout the second half as the held the Lynx without a shot in the final 45 minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandeis outshot Lesley, 15-4, for the game, including 8-0 in the second half.
  • Lesley's Brittley Gaan made three saves in the first half and took the loss, while Lilly Donovan stopped four of Brandeis's eight second-half shots.
  • The Judges recorded their second shutout in a row and fifth overall this season as sophomore Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) was untested in net.
  • Sunday has now scored a point in four straight games and 10 of the team's 11 contests this season. She has assists in four games in a row after having had a four-game goal scoring streak earlier.
  • At 9-0-1 in their last 10 contests, this is the fourth year in a row Brandeis has had an unbeaten streak of 10 or more games.
  • They started 12-0-1 last season, 9-0-1 in 2015 and reeled off 11-straight wins in 2014 after a loss in the season opener.
  • The longest undefeated streak in school history is a 13-0-3 string that spanned the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
