WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Dana of Lombard, Ill., was named the October 9 University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, marking her first career weekly honor from the UAA.

Dana has started all but one game for the Judges this season. Last week, she posted a 1-0-1 record. After going untested to record her fifth shutout of the campaign with a 3-0 win at Lesley University last Tuesday evening, Sierra posted her top performance of the season on Saturday afternoon in Brandeis's Homecoming game, a top-25 UAA showdown against Carnegie Mellon University.

The Judges, ranked 16th nationally in Division III by D3soccer.com and 22nd by the United Soccer Coaches, battled to a 1-1 draw with the Tartans, who are ranked 14th and 10th, respectively. Dana made 14 saves – one shy of a school record – including the first 11 shots on goal that she faced. Brandeis scored late in the first half, but CMU equalized with less than a minute to go in regulation. Dana made three saves in overtime to preserve the tie. For the week, Dana allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of work.

With the tie, Brandeis moved to 9-1-2 on the season. The Judges are on a 9-0-2 unbeaten streak, marking the fourth year in a row they have posted a string of 10 or more games without a loss. They make a UAA road trip to the University of Rochester on Friday evening for a 7:30 p.m. start, followed by a 1:30 p.m. match on Sunday against Emory University, the 24th-ranked team in the nation in the D3soccer.com poll.

Dana is a 2016 graduate of Glenbard East High School.
