WALTHAM, Mass. – A pair of evenly-matched teams each scored a second-half goal today as the host Brandeis University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with rival NYU in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Gordon Field. The Judges move to 11-3-3 overall on the season, 2-3-2 in the UAA, while the Violets are 10-5-3, also 2-3-2 in the conference, as both teams finish tied for fourth in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis outshot NYU, 7-4, in the first half, but none of the shots were on frame. Judge senior Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) had the closest attempt, hitting the crossbar in the 17^th minute.
• In the second half, shots favored the Violets by the same 7-4 margin, but the teams were able to test the respective keepers.
• NYU finally broke through at exactly the 67-minute mark. After the Judges were called for a foul about 25 yards from goal, Violet rookie back Nalani Ogawa (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) drilled a free kick just under the crossbar and out of the reach of Brandeis grad student Frankie Pinto (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente).
• The Judges equalized in the 77^th minute. Junior midfielder Hannah Maatallah (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) played a ball over the top that bounced and found the feet of classmate Julia Jaffe (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage). Jaffe avoided NYU defenders and chipped the ball over NYU sophomore Sophia Danielsen (Coral Springs, Fla./Pine Crest School) for her first collegiate goal.
• In the overtime periods, Brandeis had the better of play, outshooting NYU, 5-2. Schwartz had the best attempt at a game-winner, hitting the crossbar for the second time in the game on free kick from just outside the 18 in the 96^th minute.
• In the 98^th minute, junior Emily Thiem (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon) ripped a shot that forced Danielsen to make a nice save at the post.
• Neither team was able to put a shot on net in the second overtime period, settling for the draw.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Brandeis held the 16-13 edge in overall shots and 5-2 in shots on goal.
• Pinto made one save, while Danielsen had four for the visitors.
• Both teams had two corner kicks, and fouls were 15 for the Judges and 13 for the Violets.

SENIOR DAY

• Before the game, Brandeis honored its two seniors, Samantha Schwartz and Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union), who made their final regular-season home appearances.
