WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team got one goal back with just over 10 minutes to play, but the Judges couldn't find an equalizer as they suffered a 2-1 University Athletic Association (UAA) defeat at the hands of the Emory University Eagles today. With the loss, the Judges fall to 10-2-0 overall, 3-1 in the UAA, while the Eagles improve to 9-4-1, 1-2-1 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Emory opened the scoring in the 10^th minute on a penalty kick. The Eagles' Sophia Dillon drew a foul in the box when she chipped a ball over a charging Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East), and was hauled down going for the open goal. Madison Phaneuf converted the PK for her sixth goal of the season.
• The Eagles doubled the lead in the 26^th minute, when Danielle Darius punched one home in a scramble in front of the net after a corner. Samantha Hilsee earned the assist.
• Brandeis got one back with 10:01 left in regulation as sophomore Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Central Catholic) headed home a corner kick taken by rookie Lauren Mastandrea (Hauppage, N.Y. / Hauppage). The goal was Bakhtiari's fifth of the season, tying her for the team lead.
• The Judges had some decent changes to equalize in the final 10 minutes, with Emory goalie Danielle Staffin denying Mastandrea in the 87^th minute, and Bakhtiari sending a free kick just over the crossbar in the 89^th.
• Staffin denied Brandeis's Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional) in the final minute of play, and a corner kick in the last 10 second was headed around the box, but the Judges were unable to get off a quality shot on goal to equalize.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The game was evenly played, with both sides taking 20 shots, earning five corner kicks each, and committing eight fouls each.
• Dana made five saves in the first half before suffering the loss.
• Junior Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn. / Tolland) had three stops in the second half.
• Staffin made six stops to earn the win for Emory.
• This was just the second time all season Brandeis had given up more than one goal, and the first time since their season opener against MIT.
