ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 13th-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team held off top-ranked Washington University for most of regulation, but the Bears scored with less than a minute remaining before overtime to take a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) win this afternoon. With the win, Brandeis falls to 11-3 overall, 3-2 in the UAA, while WashU improves to 15-0, 5-0 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges and Bears played a tight first half, with WashU owning an 8-3 advantage in shots.
  • Brandeis's lone shot on goal came in the 24th minute from sophomore Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass./Central Catholic School).
  • Judge junior Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) made one save before the break, with the Judges clearing a ball off the line in the 33rd minute.
  • The Bears turned up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Judges, 12-0.
  • Brandeis was able to withstand the pressure until the final minute of play.
  • With 54 seconds left before overtime, WashU's Erin Flynn sent a through-ball for Taylor Cohen. Dana came off her line to try to halt the attack, but Cohen got there first and poked the ball home for her 10th goal of the season.
  • Dana finished with six saves for the game, one shy of her season-best.
  • Washington's Emma Greenfield had one stop for the hosts.
