ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored a late goal to cut into their deficit, but the Judges couldn't complete the comeback in a 2-1 loss at the hands of #3 Washington University in a road University Athletic Association contest today. With the loss, the Judges fall to 6-4-2 overall, 1-3-0 in the UAA. The Bears win their 10th straight to improve to 11-0-1, 4-0 UAA.

After a defensive-minded first half in which WashU outshot Brandeis, 4-3, but the Judges put all three of their attempts on net, the offense clicked in the second half. The Bears' Erin Flynn broke the ice in the 66rh minute when she put one in the back of the net after a corner kick produced a scrum in the goalie box. In the 73rd minute, Flynn netted a key insurance goal, taking a short free kick from Emily Kaufman and blasting it into the upper left of the goal. The goal was Flynn's fifth of the season – she scored all four of the Bears' goals over the weekend against NYU and Brandeis.

The insurance goal proved to be crucial as Brandeis scored just about five minutes later in the 79th minute. Sophomore Yasla Ngoma (North Plainfield, N.J./Oak Knoll) headed a ball across the box and classmate Sydney Lenhart (Tucson, Ariz./Salpoint Catholic) was there to drive it home. The goal was Lenhart's third of the campaign, as was the assist for Ngoma. It was just the fifth goal allowed all season by the Bears.

The Judges had a couple of attempts in the final 10 minutes, but both Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass./Tyngsborough) and Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) shot high.

First-year goalkeeper Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) had eight saves in the losing effort, tying her career-high set in the first game of the season. WashU's Sidney Connor had three saves in earning the win. Washington U outshot the Judges, 13-6 for the game, including 9-3 in the second half.

The Judges step out of the conference for their next three matches, starting with a Wednesday evening contest at home against Bridgewater State at 7 p.m.
