Hunt leads women's soccer past Springfield, 4-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Brandeis University senior forward Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass./Tyngsborough) registered a goal and an assist this afternoon to lead the Judges to a 4-1 road non-conference victory over Springfield College. With the win, the Judges improve to 8-4-2 on the season, while the Pride fall to 6-6-2.

Hunt did all her scoring in the first 10-plus minutes. She scored the game's first goal just 4:48 into the contest, converting a cross from junior Morgan Clark (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange). The goal was Hunt's fourth of the season, while the assist was Clark's first. Hunt then added an assist on senior Juliette Carreiro's  (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) game-winning goal at the 10:09 mark. With the goal and assist, Hunt registered her fifth career three-point game. Carreiro's goal was her fifth of the campaign and the 14th of her career. It was her third game-winner of the season and the fifth of her career.

Brandeis added one more goal before the end of the half, when junior Jess Herman (Plantation, Fla. / NSU University School) chipped in a shot from just inside the 18-yard box in the 34th minute. Sophomore Lexi Krobath (South Riding, Va. / Freedom) closed out the Brandeis scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute. Springfield spoiled the Judges' shutout bid with just 2:06 left in regulation on a goal by Karly Suppicich.

For the game, Brandeis outshot Springfield, 19-10, including 12-5 in shots on goal. First-year Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) made two first-half saves to earn the win, while sophomore Samantha Scott (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Worcester Academy) had two stops in the second half. SC's Caitlyn Normoyle had two saves and three goals allowed in the first 45 minutes, while Bridget O'Connor made six stops in the second half for the Pride.

Brandeis will wrap up its non-conference schedule next Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. when they travel to Johnson and Wales University.
