Women drop barnburner with Babson, 4-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a goal in the 81st minute this afternoon, only to see visiting Babson respond with the game-winning goal just two minutes and 11 seconds later.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brandeis got off to a strong start when grad student Makenna Hunt (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) crossed the ball to grad student transfer Bailey Cullen (Connellsvile, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic), who buried her first goal with the Judges in the third minute.
  • Babson answered in the 17th minute when Isabella Lynch ran down a through ball from Jordyn Ferrantino and put in a shot off the inside of the post past a diving keeper for a 1-1 tie.
  • Brandeis had a chance to go back ahead in the 20th minute, but Beaver goalie Morgan Fedosiewich denied Cullen on a penalty kick.
  • The visitors took their first lead in the 33rd minute when Morgan Krauss's service was miscommunicated and went inside the far post.
  • In the 69th minute, Lynch netted her second of the game in the 69th minute on a Krauss helper.
  • Not to be denied, Hunt scored her second goal of the season just over three minutes later to get the Judges within 3-2.
  • In the 81st minute, senior Caroline Swan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine Richland) took Brandeis's second PK of the game and buried in the lower left corner to knot the game at 3-all.
  • Just 2:11 later, Natalie Knauf took a through ball from Izzy DeMatos to provide the winning tally for the Beavers.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandeis owned a 13-10 edge in shots, 10-7 in shots on goal and 6-1 in corner kicks.
  • Fedosiewich made seven saves in the winning effort, while Judge rookie Ella Thompson (Libertyville, Ill. / Vernon Hill) had three stops.
