Sheinhait leads Judges on first day of WPI Invitational with top-10 finish.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Rookie Amy Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) lead the way for the Judges on first day of WPI Invitational with a top-10 finish in 50-yard freestyle race.

Amy Sheinhait had the top time for the Judges in the 50-yard freestyle race finishing in ninth place with a time of 25.59 seconds. Also scoring in the race, junior Fallon Bushee (Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter) touched with a time of 26.42 seconds in 18th. Rookie Sherry Tu (Guangdong, China / Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women) finished in 27th place at 26.87 seconds in the race.  

Sophomore Joanna Murphy (Sarasota, Fla. / Riverview High School) started her weekend with a 10th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 5:27.89. Junior Theresa Gaffney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) also scored points for the Judges with her 29th place finish at 5:41.50. Rookie Yi Sul Richter (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Vista Ridge, United World College of Southeast Asia) came in right behind her in 30th at 5:47.91.

The 200-yard IM race saw two Judges scoring points for the overall tally. Rookies Erin Gawronski (Norwich, N.Y. / Norwich) and Sam Greenberg (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Cheyenne Mountain) both touched in less than 2.5 minutes. Greenberg, the 18th place finisher, had a time of 2:21.86, while Greenberg came in 28th at 2:27.47. These ladies also scored in the 100-yard butterfly race. Gawronski finished 24th at 1:04.43 with Greenberg following her at 1:06.14 in 26th.

Rookie Abby Damsky (New York, N.Y. / The Brearley School), scored for the Judges by finished 17th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:22.46.

The Judges took 11th place in the lengthy 800-yard freestyle, finishing in 8:36.71. Murphy, Sheinhait, Bushee, and Richter swam for Brandeis in this one.

Brandeis had two teams in the 200-yard medley relay race, finishing 12th and 19th. The team of Bushee, Tu, Sheinhait, and sophomore Margot Farnet (Fayetteville, Ga. / Our Lady of Mercy Catholic) touched with a time of 1:46.23, their best time of the weekend. The second team scoring for the Judges in this race finished in 1:50.79. This group consisted of rookie Maya Saar (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus School for Girls), Damsky, Gawronski, and Greenberg.

Finally, the 400-yard medley also had two scoring teams for Brandeis in Day One. Tu, Gawronski, Murphy, and Saar touched in 14th at 4:26.46, while Damsky, Gaffney, Greenberg, and sophomore Morgan Kolb (Freeville, N.Y. / Lehman Alternative Community School) came in 23rd at 4:39.48.

As a team, the Judges finished with 321 points to put themselves in eighth place after the first day of action.
