WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis swimming and diving teams competed in their first home meets in more than a month and a half today, but the Judges fell to visiting Colby College. The women (1-9) dropped a 162-103 decision, while the men (2-8) were edged, 155-141.

On the women's side, sophomore Joanna Murphy (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) took two distance freestyle races. She was victorious in the first individual event of the meet, 1,000-yard free, with a time of 11:09.48, while adding a win in the 500 in 5:28.25. Rookie Sherry Tu (Guangdong, China / Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women) added a runner-up finish in the 50 free with a time of 26.91 seconds.

The Judges won half of the day's 16 events on the men's side, with a pair of triple winners. Sophomore Edan Zitelny  (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 in 56.38 seconds and the 200 in 2:05.87. He also captured the 200-yard individual medley with a time 2:04.56.

Senior Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow) proved his versatility with wins in three different disciplines. He took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:14.82, the 200 butterfly in 2:03.23 and the 200 breaststroke, 2:18.03.

Rookie Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) captured the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.72, while junior Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon) won the 100 butterfly in 54.18 seconds. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough to pull out the win, as the Mules outscored the Judges, 27-7 in diving events with a deeper and more experience squad of divers.

The Judges return to  action next Saturday at Trinity College for a 1p.m. start.
